A Funny Post and a New Venture

So, I am always trying to expand my thinking of new ways to market our business And by doing so I run across alot of articles on working from home.  The other day I ran across a rather funny one from wahadventures.com that was really cute and very relateble.  It is titled "7 things you'll hate about working from home"
The very first one was one I think we all can relate to.  Do you ever get this look when you tell someone you work from home?  Especially if you tell them you crochet for a living.  Its a look like this:

This just really cracked me up because it is sooo true.  Even when I was in direct marketing and earned my own free van for 6 years I STILL got that look.  Unless you have worked from home most will not understand the challenges that we have.
The article goes on to talk about the expense of  having to buy a good computer if you work from home and any additional software that you may need. And of course then there is the challenges of your home life interfering with your work life and all the distractions your home life can bring such as pets, children and also friends and family.  People think because your home your not really doing anything and are available for them to pop in on.
And then there is the "benefits" of working at home.  You can literally roll out of bed and get to work.  No shower, no brushing your teeth and no changing out of your pajama's.  Just plop right down and get to work.

Although we all have great intentions of running our business like a 9-5, it is easy to fall into the trap of being in our pjs all day and sneaking off to take a nap.  And when we do dress for work the usual attire is sweat pants and a tshirt.

I don't know about you but this article really hit home for me.  My favorite place to work is in my easy chair in earshot of the TV.  I can't say that I actually watch the TV but it is always on while I am working.  So I ask myself, how much more work would I get done if I worked in the space that I actually created for me to work in. I have an office space all set up and wold probably get a ton more work done and have less distractions then what I do right now.  So I have made a commitment to "try" to go to work in my office every day.

Now with that said, I'm not sure that my work day will end at 5p like most people.  It is too hard when you have an Internet business to stop work at a certain time when you have different time zones that you are working with.  And I can't promise that I will always get dressed.  But it is a start!

So I challenge you to try to make an effort to schedule work time as if you work in an office.  I would love to hear how this works out for you.  I love comments and would love to hear your opinions!!

Until next time...

What's New With The 2 Hookers

It took us quite a few months to try to catch up form the holidays.  One of our hottest items has been the crocodile stitch booties from Bonita Patterns.  I had requests for it and was going to put it in the shop eventually.  But then I had a second request so I posted a picture on our Facebook  page and I was pleasantly surprised by the response that we received.  What I didn't realize was that I would be going into the hospital early for my second total knee replacement surgery.  Or that I would have complications after surgery so my stay was twice as long as it should have been and I was quite ill for a bit.

The pattern for the booties is a great pattern and it is available in baby and toddler sizes.  We do offer all three size booties in our shop.  And we offer them in many colors.  So please stop by and check them out. We even sent a pair of baby and adult to Sweden.  This was our first international order.

We also did some fun requests that weren't crochet which took me back to my earlier days of crafting which was really fun for me to do.  A customers daughter was turning 16 and she wanted to make it very special for her.  Her daughter loves minions.  So she sent me a pair of high-tops and a white shirt for me to paint both and also requested a blue tutu and a crochet minion ear flap hat.

Some other things we have gotten orders for is our owl tote and a 17" stuffed Minion (not yet listed in our shop)

This was alot of fun to make and we should have it listed in our shop soon.  If you can't wait though just drop us a line and let us know that you want one and we will get right on it.

What we are working on now...

Currently I am working on a 4t hounds tooth jacket in charcoal grey and soft pink.  This will be sent to Nebraska for photo's and be on our site in about a month.  It is rather heavy, I hope for the upcoming months but it will be just perfect for those chilly days or fall and even into even late fall.  If you'd like to see what it looks like let me know and I can get you a preview.  The sizing goes all the way up to size 10 and is just perfect for that trendy young lady in your life.

We have some other surprises that will be showing up soon just in time for summer.  But as always if you have suggestions as to what you would like to see.  Drop us a note or message us on Facebook.

Until next time.

In order to be eligible to win, you MUST like all the pages of the vendors who are sponsoring this giveaway. They are all small businesses that have donate prizes in hopes of gaining more fans. Please support and thank them for their generosity. Please share this giveaway with friends and family. Good luck! So LIKE each page, SHARE this post, COMMENT and LIKE THIS POST. If you don't know liking a small business page really helps them out.  This is what keeps us on our fans page and it also helps if you like their posts on their page as well.  The more likes a page has the more it is recognized in the Internet search engines.  So when someone searches for say a crocheted hat a shop with more fans is more likely to pop up than one who doesn't have alot of activity.

One of the other things I have been working on the last two weeks is putting some bracelets into our shop.  This also is what you will be winning when you enter the above giveaway.
I have also been asked if I make tutu's.  While this is not really a genre of our shop I love to make all sorts of things and I think it will be a great addition to our shop.  So look for our tutu's to hit our store soon.
I've got lots of ideas for new categories to add to the shop which I think will be great for the shop but if there is something that you would like to see please let us know.  I love new ideas!!

On a personal note, I will be having surgery on November 6.  While i don't think this will really interfere with my production of orders, it may slow things up a bit.  So if you are needing something right away please get your order in quickly so I can get it on my to do list and get the supplies in.  The one thing I won't be able to do is drive.  So while I'm sure I will be able to go shopping I won't have the freedom to come and go as much as I'd like or that I am used to.  Plus there will be no sneaking of yarn into the house as I will have someone (Hubby) with me 24/7.

I wanted to show you our latest addition to our shop in case you haven't seen it.  I think it turned out really cute if I do say so myself!  :)

Well, that's it for now.  Have a great weekend!!  I will be back Monday with the winner of our giveaway.

Where Have I Been?

Hi Friends,
First off I'd like to apologize that I haven't posted in over 6 months.  I'm sorry for that but I can tell you that it was a very busy summer.  You may ask what I have been doing and to be honest I can't really tell you specifics as to what I was doing other than I did do alot of crocheting.  So that has taken up alot of my time.  In April I responded to an add on one of our local Facebook adds looking for someone who could crochet "cute purses". The person had a couple of examples of what she was looking for.  So I responded and made this purse for her....

The pattern that I used was from CuteLittleCrafts on Etsy here,  The customer that I was working for wanted the tote smaller than the pattern so I had to do several adjustments on the pattern and it took several phone calls back and forth between the customer and I before I had the right size for her.  After that initial owl tote.  She than asked for a Hello Kitty that was made from a Russian picture that had no pattern and also a hat that I made up.  See those below:

The Russian Hello Kitty Bag was quite a challenge.  It had alot of pictures I could go by which gave a hint of how to make it. I found that I really enjoyed figuring out how it was made.  I was very happy with how it turned out and so was my customer.  I think this bag would look really wonderful in different colors and with out the Hello Kitty.  If you are interested in any of these items you can find them in my shop here or on our Facebook page The 2 Hookers Shop here.
If you do stop by either our shop on Etsy or our Facebook page we'd love it if you could favorite our shop and/or like our Facebook page.  Thank you for stopping by and please stop back again soon.  I plan on blogging on a regular basis!!  Have a great week
~Rhonda
